08 May Alpha Phi Omega 2020 National Convention Update
Brothers,
I hope this letter finds you well. I want to first commend your amazing leadership over the past few months and beyond. The chapters of Alpha Phi Omega have done a remarkable job working through this change, finding ways to serve those in need, and adjusting to this new normal. This is due to the student officers and volunteers who support the Fraternity day in and day out.
I am writing on behalf of the Alpha Phi Omega Board of Directors to provide an update regarding the 46th Biennial National Convention scheduled December 27-30, 2020, at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge in Phoenix, AZ.
As with all things, the Covid-19 pandemic is causing unanticipated hurdles for the planning and preparation of this event.
With that, we have decided to delay the opening of registration so the Board and professional team can assess the feasibility of this event come December 2020. There are several areas that must be looked into before event details can be finalized and registration opened.
We know that many chapters receive funding from their schools to cover the costs of attendance, which may not be available next year due to campus budget cuts. This issue, among others including member safety, must be looked at before opening any sort of registration.
As always, the safety of members is our biggest priority.
The Fraternity’s Board of Directors will meet at the end of June to discuss the Convention among other things. An update regarding the Convention will be provided within two weeks of that meeting.
Thank you for your patience and continued support of Alpha Phi Omega.
I look forward to the day we can join together to celebrate and remember the positive impact the members of Alpha Phi Omega have made in their communities yesterday, today and always.
In Leadership, Friendship and Service,
Robert M. Coop, P.E.
National President
