The 2025 National Convention offered 52 learning labs for attendees to collaborate, problem-solve, reflect and analyze topics that develop them and leaders and improve us as people. The topics offered ranged from how to run a Merit Badge University to best utilizing Gallup’s CliftonStrengths for Leaders assessment to unlock your leadership potential — and everything in between!
From cutting the 100th birthday cake and the largest Toast Song circle to race car driving and golf simulations, we came together for the celebration of the century. Brothers from across the nation gathered to honor a legacy of Leadership, Friendship and Service that has shaped countless lives over ten decades. The energy was electric as we shared stories, reconnected with old friends and welcomed new members into our historic fellowship, creating memories that will carry Alpha Phi Omega proudly into its next hundred years.
The Fraternity’s highest level of distinction, the National Distinguished Service Award, established in 1956, recognizes brothers for outstanding service to the Fraternity above and beyond. A blue key with diamonds and a certificate are awarded at National Conventions to those who have distinguished themselves through outstanding service to the National Fraternity. A National Committee composed of past recipients is appointed by the National President to accept and consider nominations to determine recipients.
Brother Bingman is throws himself into every responsibility and duty with great competence and enthusiasm. He has served in multiple section roles, including sectional chair; in multiple region roles, including region director; as an APO LEADS presenter; and thirteen years on the Board of Directors of our Fraternity. He is appreciated for having left behind a trail of detailed and useful documentation binders on how to carry out specific positions, starting from chapter offices. Other brothers have long been inspired by this brother’s enthusiasm and motivation from when he pledged Alpha Alpha Chapter in 1996 to serving as the Sergeant-at-Arms for the 2025 National Convention.
Brother Cantor has been dedicated to filling critical roles for multiple decades. He has served as a resource, facilitator and mentor to both new and seasoned volunteers across the Fraternity. They have served as chapter advisor to several chapters; in numerous section roles, including sectional chair; in numerous region roles; and for several terms on the APO Board of Directors. He has served the Fraternity with great dedication because of his love for APO, never seeking recognition, from when he pledged at Kappa Chapter to when he served as the Lead Advisor for the Rules & Credentials Reference Committee at the 2025 National Convention.
Brother DeLuka has served a significant tenure as chapter advisor; as an extension coach; as sectional chair; on region staff; as an APO LEADS presenter; and for seven years on our Board of Directors. She notably applied her analytical mindset from her professional background on the Board of Directors Nominations Task Force, helping to develop criteria for that group to find brother and non-brother candidates possessing the leadership qualities we need. She has served with distinction from when she pledged Epsilon Lambda Chapter to when she served as Assistant Secretary for the 2025 National Convention.
Volunteers guide the Fraternity, shape its programs and services, and provide direct local support to our chapters. The most significant impact that volunteers have on Alpha Phi Omega is by being examples of Leadership, Friendship and Service in action. The purpose of this award is to recognize, thank and celebrate a volunteer who constantly goes above and beyond the form in service to the Fraternity.
Brother Scruggs was elected a Trustee of the Alpha Phi Omega Endowment in 2011 and has served on the Endowment Board since that time, including as its Chair since 2020. His leadership has been pivotal in growing the Endowment, and it’s support of the Fraternity.
The Centennial Member Recognition is a once-in-a-lifetime honor that celebrates your exceptional service and leadership within Alpha Phi Omega, to be honored in the landmark 100th year. This prestigious accolade will elevate your profile, opening doors to valuable networking and career opportunities.
Brother Lai serves his community as a city council member and by constantly organizing service activities ranging from clean-up projects to Merit Badge Universities. He inspires many through his successful leadership of and sustained engagement with APO alumni in the Washington D.C. area. He is known as a good friend because of his ability to foster fellowship among brothers and chapters in the D.C. area, and his willingness to share his time, talent and treasure to help others.
APO members joined forces to make a measurable impact in their communities as they celebrated a century of LFS! The “100 Years of Service Challenge” united our brotherhood in a friendly competition to celebrate Alpha Phi Omega’s century of service.
As they tracked and shared their service hours, they also strengthened connections with fellow brothers and demonstrated the tangible difference APO makes!
