Building Community at the 45th Biennial National Convention

“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.” Coretta Scott King

Join more than 2,000 brothers from around the world December 27-30, 2018, for Alpha Phi Omega’s 45th Biennial National Convention in Austin, Texas.  This four-day event celebrates the community of servant leaders built by the vision of Frank Reed Horton just 92 short years ago.

Brothers in attendance will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in fellowship with students and alumni from all types of chapters and backgrounds; engage in personal development and chapter improvement workshops; and build community through service during the all-convention service project to benefit the City of Austin. From alumni to students – there are endless networking and educational opportunities available for every type of attendee.

This year’s registration packages are inclusive of the Celebration Banquet, Fraternity Breakfasts, all-convention service project and T-shirt, educational workshops and networking opportunities. This year’s package allows attendees to get the full convention experience for one low price! Click the button below to begin registration.

Voting Delegates
Voting delegates are chosen by their peers to represent their chapter in the Legislative Session at the National Convention. Serving as a voting delegate is a great responsibility and a fruitful service to the Fraternity. The Convention will have a format and benefits that compliment and show appreciation for these delegates.

Voting delegates will receive discounted pricing for serving in this role, and each morning before legislation starts, delegates will be provided complimentary breakfast as a thank you from the Fraternity for the service they are providing.

Additionally, the schedule will allow students to both participate in the business of the Fraternity and develop their personal and chapter leadership skills, without needing to choose one or the other. This will be done by starting the Legislative Session on December 27 and ending December 28.  After legislation ends, there will be opportunities to attend keynote presentations from prominent speakers, attend seminars for personal and chapter development, and ample time to network with members from other chapters.

APO LEADS courses will be offered to those not participating in legislation December 27-28, however there will be additional courses on December 29 so those who couldn’t participate due to legislation will be able to participate. Voting delegates will be given priority for these courses.

Each active chapter of APO that is in good standing with the Fraternity will be allowed up to two voting delegates to represent the chapter in the Legislative Session. The review of proposed legislation by reference committees will take place virtually prior to the Convention, therefore the Fraternity is asking that chapters select the two students serving as voting delegates before the end of the spring 2018 semester.

Voting Delegate training will be available online by the end of April. Emails will be sent out with an access link to those registered as a voting delegate.

Please plan ahead and make sure that the chapter you represent is current on all good standing requirements and fees prior to arriving at the National Convention.

For information and questions regarding good standing, please contact the Fraternity’s Chapter Services Department.

Voting Delegate Training

The Fraternity created an online orientation course to give voting delegates a head start in preparing for their important role at the Convention.

This course should take no more than 30 minutes to complete. Additionally, you are able to complete this course at your leisure, meaning if you exit in the middle of a chapter, the course will save your spot. Please complete each chapter, as well as the two quizzes.

You will need to click the Voting Delegate Orientation button below and enter APONC18 to access this course in the APO Online Learning Center.

Students
The National Convention is the Fraternity’s largest celebration of Leadership, Friendship and Service, and we want to see every brother of Alpha Phi Omega there to represent the community that holds this fraternity together and to work to improve their personal leadership skills and expand their chapter operations knowledge.

The National Convention educational programs are unlike any other conference education you’ve attended. These workshops and trainings are interactive and engaging, with the Fraternity’s best facilitating and coaching. Workshops will be segmented into categories for personal development, chapter best practices, and member education. This schedule will allow attendees to participate in all areas without having to pick and choose.

In addition to the educational events, the Convention is a place to get to know and engage with brothers from all types of campuses and communities. The 2018 National Convention will host more networking opportunities than ever before, including a night out on the town to explore Austin with fellow brothers.

Start planning your trip now and talking with your chapter about raising money to send members to the Convention. Find out how other chapters have handled fundraising and talk with the school administration about possible funding for the chapter. If you have questions regarding fundraising for the Convention, reach out to your chapter advisors, sectional chair and/or regional chair.

The National Convention is the Fraternity’s largest celebration of Leadership, Friendship and Service, and we want to see every brother of Alpha Phi Omega there to represent the community that holds this fraternity together. The 2018 National Convention will have a new and exciting take on the Convention experience with exciting new events and opportunities for brothers.

The schedule will be in such a way that participants will have more opportunities to participate in all aspects of the Convention and not have to make hard choices of choosing between directing the Fraternity’s future by serving during the Legislative Session and improving their strengths and skills while connecting with brothers from around the country.

The Fraternity will celebrate the contribution of APO’s amazing alumni during Alumni Day on December 29. Alumni Day will include alumni-only workshops and an alumni reception on the beautiful terrace of the hotel.
