Letters From Linda!

Dear chapter members,

The ship has set sail for the 2008 National Convention in Boston. I hope your chapter is ready to get on board and attend the Convention with brothers from across the nation. In order to fully participate and send voting delegates your chapter must be free of any outstanding financial obligations due at the National Office.

Read on to see the financial responsibilities expected of your chapter in order to maintain good financial standing with the National Office.

Chapter of the Month

Torch Topics is searching for September's Chapter of the Month. If your chapter is working daily to better exemplify the Cardinal Principles of Leadership, Friendship and Service, nominate them by sending a short essay describing your chapters work in the community and in the Fraternity and explaining why your chapter should be selected.

In order to be honored as the Torch Topics Chapter of the Month, your chapter must be in good standing with the National Office, and a photo of your chapter and a submission essay must be sent to the Director of Communications at director.communications@apo.org.

Chapters across the nation are excited to hear what is going on in APO on a chapter level. Nominate your chapter to share your story.

Coming to a chapter near you!
Your chapter president, treasurer and advisory chair will soon be receiving a copy of the SAME PAGE guide. This guide helps chapters determine what forms and fees are to be submitted and the due dates. It also provides information about service reporting requirements, the Youth Service Grant and the John Mack Scholarship, etc. The new guide was created to keep everyone on the SAME PAGE so that chapters will be in "good standing" with the Fraternity.

The Brothers Are Coming!
The Brothers Are Coming!

From the founding of the first institution of higher learning in the Real World to the catalytic nation-shaping acts of the American Revolution, the city of Boston has served as an international icon of leadership, community service and avant-garde thinking. So too has APO become synonymous with a commtment to leadership and service in fostering the youth of the world.

From December 27-30, the 2008 Alpha Phi Omega National Convention will set its name within this illustrious history, as well as that of our own Fraternity, with a boat-rocking revolution of its own. "Revolutionary Service: Make History in Boston" will offer actives, alumni, staff and guests a host of unique, never-before-seen opportunities. Take up the rallying cry and join the revolution!

2008-2009 Annual Charter Reaffirmations ...

will be mailed to all chapter presidents on September 8th. Electronic copies will also be sent to the president, treasurer, vice president of membership and advisory chair. This is a new procedure beginning this year so chapter officers and advisory chairs can become involved in the process of submitting the information.
Chapters must submit the completed reaffirmation forms, as well as Annual Active Membership Dues (AAMD) as part of the "good standing" requirements. AAMD is $32 per Active Member ($25 AAMD, plus a $7 insurance fee). The completed and signed form, along with AAMD, are due in the National Office by November 15th.

If you have any questions, or if the chapter president does not receive a hard copy, please contact Judy Mitchell, Director of Chapter Services at chapter.services.dir@apo.org immediately.

THEY SAY THEY WANT NEW PROJECTS-DO THEY?

Dear Suzy & Sam Service,

Help!  I'm vice president of service for my chapter and I was really excited to become an officer, but now I'm not sure I'm cut out for it. My chapter brothers say they want to try new projects but whenever I propose new things all I hear are the reasons people don't want to do them.

Should I keep looking for new projects or am I wasting time?

Fraternally,
